Do you think the human identity is blurred by the development of technology like robots?
We hear in the news almost every day of some kind of technological or scientific advance. New technologies like genetic engineering and nanotechnology are giving us the power to remake the world already. But should we be concerned about these advancements? Will this eventually lead to a dangerous dependence of technology?
We are already dangerously dependent on technology. Consider how many people think that they have to have a calculator. They don’t know what to do with pen and paper. Consider how many people have to have a word processor. Again, pen and paper issues abound. People are losing the ability to think independently. Consider how many people cannot go out without a cell phone. What about cars? If the computer quits so does the whole car. Technology is great. Technology is also overused. Consider whether or not you’d be at a computer terminal instead of elsewhere if technology were not so convenient. Ah…the stars. Ah…the sunshine. There’s a whole world out there. We’re “trapped” at our T.V.’s and computers.
